Why City&Guilds?

Don’t underestimate the prestige and reputation a City&Guilds Assured certificate and logo will bring to your business.  It’s probably the most well recognised and respected qualification in the UK.

Of course it’s true that potential clients won’t book you just because of your qualifications, they will also want to see your portfolio.  Most clients will look a 4-6 Photographers and contact 2-3 of them, so what will make them choose to look at you instead of the dozens of your competitors?

Which website would you choose to click on or contact when looking for a professional or tradesmen?  The one that has no recognisable accreditation, or the one that has a City&Guilds Assured logo on their website?

All our courses come with a City&Guilds Assured certificate along with the right to use their logo.  The lectures are supported with many practical shoots, both in the studio and on location that will provide you with hands on training and the opportunity to create a comprehensive portfolio to show clients.

Our courses are unique and the only ones that will give you the opportunity to build a comprehensive portfolio as well as achieving a City&Guilds Assured certificate and logo to use for your marketing and website.

As a City&Guilds Training Centre we are subject to an annual audit and Quality Assurance inspection by City&Guilds.  The audit is of the training centre facilities , staff and the delivery and outcomes of our courses and includes inspection of students work, our assessment of their work and interviews with ex students. This means you can be sure that all our courses continue to meet the highest quality standards.

The first 5 days of our 15 day Advanced Wedding, Portrait and Digital Manipulation Photography course is a combination of our 3 day Portrait photography course and 2 day Wedding photography course. The first 3 days starts with understanding exposures (ISO, Aperture and Time) and metering the light, using Photoshop and studio equipment (including home/mobile studios) and how to set-up the studio lights for different looks including ratio lighting, high key and low key. This will be supported with numerous practical portrait photography sessions in the studio using a variety of models, including males, females and children/babies.

The last 2 days of the first week covers the whole aspect of wedding photography, from obtaining bookings through to producing the final album. In addition to the theory there will also be shoots with Bride and Groom models on location at a local beauty spot, at home and in a church. We will also cover technical difficulties you may encounter while photographing the intimate portraits of the bride and groom as well as how to set-up and pose the group photographs.

On the second week you will cover more advanced skills, along with numerous shoots with models both in the studio and out on location. This will involve using a wide range of studio lighting and attachments to create various lighting set-ups/techniques in the studio for shoots including, Bump and New-borns, flash and blur and low- key romantic. For the shoots out on location you will be using off camera flash with a remote trigger system and various attachments on the camera flash for urban style and life style portraits.

The third week is the same as our 5 day Digital Manipulation course and covers a variety of managing and editing/manipulation software including Adobe programmes and Portrait Professional. The course will also cover professional workflow, creating photo books, on-line galleries, how to capture and create HDR and Panoramic images and a wide range of other professional techniques to improve and manipulate digital images.

The main objectives of the course are:

  • To Gain a City & Guilds Assured Certificate in Portrait and Wedding Photography
